Many people in the Third District, in Minnesota, and across our nation, continue to be impacted from the economic fallout of COVID-19 and subsequent restrictions. People have lost their jobs, are on reduced salaries, and have closed their businesses. We must not let the challenges of today divide us a nation. Instead, we must unite, reach out to our neighbors, and make shared sacrifices to help each other in this time of turmoil and economic uncertainty.
During my time in the Army and corporate America, I saw countless leaders proactively make sacrifices to help the people they were leading or serving. In the Army, Officers never allowed soldiers to endure a hardship that we wouldn’t endure first. In corporate America, I saw leaders who sacrificed their own salaries and bonuses during times of hardships to help employees keep their jobs and support their families.
In that spirit, when I am elected to Congress, I will reduce my salary by 20%, or donate the equivalent amount to local charities, to engage in a shared sacrifice with Minnesotans who have been adversely impacted by the economic fallout of COVID-19. You are not alone and together we shall overcome.
