Kendall A. Qualls on Israel
The United States and Israel have a noteworthy and long-standing relationship that has prevailed in the face of challenging times throughout the history of Israel’s existence. I’m confident that many years in the future; the relationship with Israel will endure, and be stronger than ever before.
Israel holds a unique place geographically as the only democratically elected government in a hostile region. Some of those neighbors do not acknowledge Israel’s right to exist and some pledge to eliminate the country from existence. As such, we are aligned to see Israel and its people prosper and live in peace with its neighbors.
Israel’s commitment to the rule of law for its Jewish and non-Jewish citizens is commendable, including allowing non-Jewish citizens to hold elective office. Its military is one of the most professional and effective forces in the world. The United States and Israel collaborate to defend democracy and freedom and in fighting terrorism, resulting in lives saved throughout the region. For that reason, I support foreign aid to Israel and will strongly oppose any attempts to boycott, divest and/or impose economic or other sanctions. In Congress, I will oppose efforts to advance these policies by members of the Democratic Party. I will also speak locally and nationally opposing these policies against a trusted ally.
The United States and Israel share strong commercial partnerships that have benefited the people of both countries in high tech, medical technology and other industries. For that reason, I will support trade deals that further enhance these trading relationships. I support President Trump’s work in rebuilding the relationship with Israel, opposing the Iranian deal and acknowledging Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.
Regarding the Palestinian people and the two-state solution, Israel and the Palestinian Leadership should resolve outstanding issues among themselves without edicts declared by the United Nations or other countries or political organizations.
I look forward to serving the people of the Third District of Minnesota as a member of Congress. I look forward to fostering our relationship with key allies, including the state of Israel.
